I’m not exactly what you’d call an “early adopter” on Substack. I must have made half a dozen Substacks over the years, write one post and then abandon it.
So when I made my first “Rolling Alone” just a little more than one month ago (March 23rd), there was no guarantee that I’d stick at it for more than a couple of days!
But, somehow, this iteration of a Substack seemed to stick. I made a few posts and then—beyond all expectations—I started to gain subscribers and followers.
And here we are, one month later, with 100 subscribers.
(It’s actually ticked over to 102 overnight, but let’s put that to one side for the moment!)
First, let me say a BIG stonking-great “Thank You” to every single person who has subscribed, read, commented, restacked… or whatever else you’ve done to help this tiny little corner of the Internet thrive.
Future Plans?
I’ve loved posting, reading, and commenting on Substack over the past few weeks and intend to continue for a long time to come.
Olvir still has a long way to go (unless he gets himself killed unexpectedly!), so I plan to keep posting more episodes that mix narrative exposition with Ironsworn gameplay mechanics.
But I want to start branching out in my solo RPG journey.
I’ve been reading and learning the Mythic Game Master Emulator and will probably post some initial thoughts later this week.
The reason behind learning Mythic is so I can branch out to play some RPGs that aren't necessarily written with solo play in mind. And first in the queue is the Fallout 2d20 RPG from Modiphius.
I’ve always loved the Fallout world (I played Fallout 1 back in the day!), so I’m excited to get this to my table and start a fresh journey into the Wasteland.
Queue, you say? Well, like many in this hobby, I’ve collected a slew of rulebooks that I want to (eventually) bring to the table. That means games such as **looks over to the bookshelf** Achtung! Chulthu! Mork Borg, Call of Cthulhu, Savage Worlds—even the granddaddy of them all, Dungeons and Dragons itself!
So, there’s still plenty of mileage left on this Substack…
Thanks again to EVERYONE, and I look forward to what this awesome hobby has in store for me over the coming months and years.
Congrats! So awesome!
Great achievement, and well done on making an engaging solo play space that people are enjoying. Good job!
